SOS Series Ends

It began as an excuse for sailors to get out on the water through the winter months, and the 2015-2016 series most definitely did not disappoint. Each winter this casual series attracts a variety of racers and cruisers who all share in the desire for sailing and light-hearted competition.

Over 80 sailboats, ranging from 20’-40’, registered for the Sailing on Sunday (SOS) series sponsored by the Corinthian Yacht Club of Portland (CYC). Skippers and crew kept the rust at bay, as their skills were tested in every possible condition from too much wind, to not enough wind, to rain, sleet and sunshine, or some combination of each – at times on the same day.

Held nearly every Sunday since last October, the nineteen-event series concluded on March 6th with a post-race Chili Cook-Off at the Portland Yacht Club, featuring some of the best chili, cornbread, salad and desserts, as well as OCSA (Oregon Corinthian Sailing Association) presentation of the coveted Gold, Silver and Bronze “SOS” award stickers awarded to boats in 1st, 2nd or 3rd place, respectively, for each PHRF and Level fleet race.

Detailed 2015-2016 SOS results can be viewed at SailPDX Race Results.

Special thanks to CYC for sponsoring, organizing and scoring the entire 19-event race series. And finally, thank you to all the volunteers who participated in the series – none of the fun would have been possible had it not been for your willingness to step up each week to make it happen.
