June 3: PYC Rose Festival Regatta; warning signal 1400 hrs
Portland Yacht Club is hosting a one-day sailing regatta on Saturday, June 3, 2017 in celebration of the annual Portland Rose Festival. This is one of the qualifiers for the OCSA Participation and Performance Trophy. This regatta is open to all sailboats who meet the following qualifications:

  • Skipper/registrant must be a current member of OCSA
  • Boat must either be part of a one-design class (ie. J24, Cal20, Merit 25, etc.), a level racing class (ie. cruising class, etc.), or be a current member of PHRF-NW (Performance Handicap Racing Fleet of the Northwest).
  • The Race Officer and committee are planning to run at least 2 races on the Columbia River, weather and wind permitting. Following the last race, Portland Yacht Club invites all racers to join us at the club for a no-host bar, with dinner available for purchase. Sipping drinks and eating delicious food while enjoying the evening and good friends on the patio of Portland Yacht Club is a great way to end the day!

For the official Notice of Race and to register, please go to SailPDX Event Notice Board. The entry fee for the regatta is $30, with a late fee of $5.00 for boats entering after 6:00 PM on May 31st. Late registration closes at 6:00 PM on Friday, June 2. .

June 17: SYSCO Dual Bridge Duel; warning signal 1400 hrs
Now that summer is here, it is time to mount up for the fifth annual Fiasco-style SYSCO Dual Bridge Duel, June 17, 2017.  What is a Fiasco-style race?  Two start lines in opposite directions, two bridges, two buoys:   you decide which way to round the course.  This year, will an upriver or downriver start win the day?  You won’t know whether you made the right strategic choice until you cross the finish line.  Registration is free to SYSCO members ($30 for non-members).
But there’s more!  The boat with line honors will carry away the coveted Columbia Crossings Cup, an ancient Hawaiian wooden bowl with magical powers to render insensible anyone who can chug down a brimming bowl-full of kava.  Even better, after the race join us on the lawn at Columbia Crossings for tasty (and free) burgers, courtesy of Columbia Crossings, where we will celebrate another great day on the water.

June 24: Women’s Regatta by OWSA; warning signal 1300 hrs
Competitive women sailors test their racing skills against one another in this one-day regatta with up to three races scheduled. OWSA Membership not required. $28
For information contact: racing@owsa.net.
As always, further details are found on SailPDX Notice Board.
