What’s Up in March

March is looking to be a busy month as the sailing season begins to warm up. There are several events coming your way as we look forward to Spring’s beginning. You can join or renew OCSA membership online and participating locations. Membership in OCSA is required for participation in most racing events.

Upcoming Events~
February 27th, SYSCO Fleet Night. Everyone is invited to kick-off a new year of racing at SYSCO Fleet Night! Meet with other members of your fleet, elect a Fleet Captain, and slam-dunk the winter blues with camaraderie, pizza, and BYOB beverages. OCSA Membership, with printed 2018 Racebook, will also be available.
DATE AND TIMES: February 27, 6:30 pm pizza social, 7:00 pm – 8:00 pm meeting.
LOCATION: Rose City Yacht Club, 3737 NE Marine Drive, Portland
FOOD: Pizza slices for sale, complimentary water & soft drinks, BYOB otherwise.

March 4th, Last Sailing on Sunday Race.  CYC invites all interested skippers and crew to participate in a “for fun” race series on the Columbia River between the I-5 and I-205 bridges. New sailors and racers are especially encouraged to join. This casual race series was started as an excuse for sailors to get out on the water through the winter months. POST-RACE CHILI COOK-OFF: Be sure to come out and join the fun post-race at Portland Yacht Club (PYC)! Bring your best chili in a Crock Pot (or like-minded apparatus), salad, cornbread or dessert to share. All crew are encouraged to participate. PYC’s Kelly Bar will be open to all sailors, with PYC member pricing! Racing begins at 1:00pm; post-race event is held from 3:00-6:00pm 

March 5th, ISC Monday night racing. Island Sailing extends an invitation to all Capri 22 and Wavelength 24 or equivalent sailboat skippers to compete in the Monday Night Races on the Columbia River between I-5 and 205 bridges.

March 7th, North Sails Trim Seminar. Everyone is invited to attend the North U Sail Trim Seminar. All new material is provided by North U. Learn how to trim your sails in differing conditions. Kerry Poe, North Sails Oregon, will be teaching the seminar.
WHEN: Wednesday evenings March 7, 14 and 21.

March 10th, OCSA Race Management Clinic. Everyone is invited to attend this FREE workshop, sponsored by OCSA. This is a MUST for all Race Captains and Fleet Captains, who will be running regattas or series. It is very helpful for any others who might serve on Race Committee. Presenter Rich Jones will be leading the seminar again this year.
WHEN: Saturday, March 10th, 10 AM – Noon, with questions after as time permits.
LOCATION (venue changed): Island Sailing Club, 515 NE Tomahawk Island Drive, Row D-85, Portland, OR
FOOD: Coffee and tea, and light morning snacks will be available.
FEE: There is no fee for the workshop.

March 10th, CYC Pray for Wind Party. CANCELLED

March 11th, SYSCO Turns 40! A Reception will be held on March 11, 2018 to celebrate all who have been a part of this history. You are invited to join with your fellow sailors who share with you a love of sailing, to reminisce the past and encourage the future of SYSCO (Small Yacht Sailing Club of Oregon).

WHEN: March 11, 2018, 2-6 PM
INFORMATION: The No-Host Bars will be open with light hors-d’oeuvre

March 24th, Frostbite Regatta. Rose City Yacht Club invites all eligible boats to participate in the first race of the year. The Frostbite Regatta will be held on the Columbia River between the I-5 and I-205 bridges.
WHEN: Saturday, March 24th, the first warning signal is at 1200 hours. Additional races will begin shortly after all boats in an individual class have finished.

RACE SOCIAL: An after race social, including food and drink, will take place at RCYC immediately after racing is concluded.
