What’s Up in May

Days are getting longer, Spring is here (sort of), and we are finally getting into our SYSCO Spring and Summer series’!! These series count as “race 3” and “race 4”  out of 9 for the OCSA Participation and Performance Trophy. Only a few boats qualified in the first two races, so the field is still wide open to get in on this prestigious trophy.
So what’s going on the rest of April, and May, you might ask…
5 races, through May 23, skipping May 9th for Oregon Offshore week. All participants must be SYSCO and OCSA members. Unsure which night your boat will race on? Check out the Notice of Race. All entries must have been received by April 17, 1830 hrs.

April 24: Island Sailing Club’s Monday Night Regatta begins
Will run every Monday Night until mid-Fall. Staring gun at 18:15-18:30. The committee will run 3 to 4 races a night. Most of the starts will be along Goose Island/Tomahawk Bay Marina. The fleet will consist of Capri 22s and Wavelength 24s. Visitors welcome. For more information, contact Alan:alan@islandsailingclub.com
CYC Portland is proud to announce that they have 23 competitors signed up for the 2017 Oregon Offshore. There is a great mix of returning racers and first timers.  Many racers joined together on Monday, April 10 where they shared stories, won raffle items, and met old friends and new at the Kickoff Party.

May 15  6:30pm:  OWSA Racing Tactics North Sails Oregon, 7304 NE MLK Jr Blvd
Prepare for the racing season with this look at winning strategies and tactics for Columbia River sailors. Caleb Borchers, America’s Cup veteran who grew up sailing on the Columbia, will share his insights. Admission is free, but you need to register by May 9 to attend. For information contact: racing@owsa.net.
Calling All Lady-Mentors!
If you are a women and would like to mentor a team of ladies to learn to race, Monday evenings in June, please contact racing@owsa.net for more details. You are welcome to use your own boat or one will be provided.
