Get ready! This is the start of something BIG!
CYC’s (Corinthian Yacht Club of Portland) Oregon Offshore International Yacht Race is getting a face lift–a new name! Entering the race’s 45th year, it will officially be known as the Schooner Creek Boat Works, Pacific NW Offshore Race. Oh, and it’ll still be an international yacht race, to boot.
While most of us will probably continue to call it the “Offshore” for short, this change recognizes the larger scope of the race in the Pacific NW and also that the race start base is moving from Astoria OR to Ilwaco WA. Ilwaco brings a host of new opportunities and support to the race, including the ability to moor all boats together in a deep-draft marine, the excitement and strong support of a growing tourist destination of the Long Beach peninsula and the city/port of Ilwaco, shortening the commute to the start line and so much more. Stay tuned for more information!
CYC is also anticipating launching an updated website very soon, and registration for the “Offshore” will be available within a week or so. We hear that 17 boats are ready to register, so make your plans to join the Race on May 7th 2020. Don’t be left on the dock wishing you were out there with the rest of the old salts, tearing up the coast and down the Strait of Juan de Fuca to the beautiful and welcoming Victoria BC. It’s gonna be a great one, and also makes for a a fantastic tune up for the Vic Maui and Pacific Cup races!
