Three long-distance sailboat races began in July and ended over 2000nm later in Hawaii – the Singlehanded Transpac 2016 (San Francisco, CA–Hanalei Bay, Kaua’i), the Vic-Maui International Yacht Race (Victoria Harbour, BC–Lahaina, Maui), and the Pacific Cup (San Francisco, CA–Kaneohe Bay, Oahu).
Many of us on land followed Race-Trackers, Blogs and Facebook as our friends and crewmates undertook the enormous feat of crossing the Pacific. Among those participating were several Portland-area boats, skippers and crew – some made it part-way, only to return due to loss of drinkable water, while others had medical issues requiring outside assistance. The majority made it to the beautiful Islands and were greeting with fanfare, leis and familiar faces.
Congratulations to all participants and aloha! We look forward to seeing you back in town!
