August 2022 E-Blast

Oregon Corinthian Sailing Association (OCSA)

Summer Breeze makes you feel fine…

It brings a smile to see sailors, at all hours, out harnessing the summer breeze. Hope it is your boat out sailing! Summer sailing opportunities are below.

But first, congrats to those Portland sailors helming their yachts in distant races, including Whidbey Island, Swiftsure, Pac Cup (with cross Pacific and river returns)! Please keep sharing your fantastic stories and congratulations on your hard-earned awards!

A huge spinnaker-sized THANK YOU to:

  • Portland Yacht Club & Rose City Yacht Club for hosting the invigorating casual races and socials with delicious meals. Sailors attending loved the Beer Can Races in July!
    Wonderful distanced camaraderie.
  • Race Committee volunteers – keep the pennants flying!
  • Skippers sharing their wonderful yachts with the new ”I want to try racing” crew during SYSCO’s “Grow the Sport” event, and
  • All participating sailors! Harnessing the wind is earth-friendly!!

Columbia River Yachting Association (CRYA)

The City of St. Helens has been working to get in place new rules for the City Docks. There will be a daily (24 hr) fee, as well as a fee for power. A new Harbormaster has been hired and a live camera of the docks installed. These changes provide greater safety measures and allow the city to impound vessels, if needed, and to keep the docks clear of squatter boats. Additional dock improvements are also anticipated through future grant money.

We want our city docks to be a welcoming, safe, and family-friendly destination for responsible boaters visiting our community.

Registration is now required upon arrival:

  • Dock Use: $15 for a full 24-hour stay
  • Electricity and Water: $5
  • Max Length of Stay: 72 hours in any 14-day period
  • Sewage Pump Out: Available at no charge on the outside dock
  • Group reservations for club events, upon request.*

For more information about dock and waterway use, please see SHMC 8.28
Thank you – Enjoy your visit!
