To my delight, I’m happy to announce that 2020 will be hindsight in about 30 hours (adjusted accordingly for timezone of course). But even though the sailing season and club trophies are in the figurative “books”, club leadership has continued working on (what we’re hoping will be) an enjoyable 2021.
Details of the 2021 race season will be left for later, when the 2021 OCSA Racebooks are back from the printer and available with OCSA 2021 memberships. But I wanted to close out this year with some information.
And the winners are…
The OCSA perpetual trophies were awarded months ago now, but we neglected to release a formal announcement of the recipients during the October virtual awards meeting. If you see any of these sailors, at any point in the next 10 months, make sure to embarrass them sufficiently by congratulating them again for their well-deserved award.
Good Times – Gary Bruner
The sailor who always seems to have had the most infectious good time
Welcome Slough – Carisa Bohus
A NEW sailor who has put forth extra effort to be involved in the sailing community
US Sailing Sportsmanship – Stephanie Walker
Awarded to the individual who has exhibited Corinthian sportsmanship both on and off the water.
Sailor of the Year – Denny Damore
This trophy is for the individual that has gone beyond the call of duty in their contributions to the sailing community
The OCSA Performance and Participation trophy was shelved for 2020 due to the cancellation of the qualifying races. With some luck, perhaps next year we’ll be able to dust it off again.
At the virtual awards meeting, the 2021 OCSA Officers were also elected:
- Lilli Matzke, Commodore
- Jan Burkhart, Vice Commodore
- Jacqueline Pitter, Rear Commodore
- Steve Moshofsky, Treasurer
- Ben Hendrix, Secretary
Thank you to all the volunteers who have stepped up to keep our organization functioning!!
US Sailing Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS), updated for 2021- 2024
US Sailing takes great pride in administering and providing The Racing Rules of Sailing to organization members. The rules provide integrity to competitive sailing and are an integral part of our sport. Sailboat racing relies on the rules to ensure that competitions are fair, consistent and safe on the water.
The Racing Rules of Sailing is published every four years by World Sailing, the international authority for the sport. These rules, amended by U.S. “prescriptions,” govern sailboat racing in the United States and in the portions of international races that pass through U.S. waters.
The 2021 RRS will go into effect starting Jan 1, 2021 (oh wait! That’s Friday!)
It looks like the only way US Sailing has distributed the new RRS is through an App, downloadable here. We’ve found the app a little difficult to peruse and figured out that World Sailing has free PDF versions available. The Study Guide shows changes from the previous rules and more info, including the new Rules, can be found here.
For those who prefer a printed publication, the 2021-2024 RRS are available as a book through the US Sailing’s website. Other related publications are also available on their site, as well.
ALSO, post a reminder on your calendar now…
Saturday, March 13th: OCSA has arranged a webinar with Dave Perry on The Racing Rules of Sailing, who will also be discussing of the changes made in the 2021-2024 rules. Details to register will be available closer to the event.
I sincerely hope everyone who receives this eBlast is healthy, warm and safe, and perhaps like me, is considering purchasing a new traveler car for 2021.
Take care, everyone. Happy new year to you all!
