Oregon Corinthian Sailing Association (OCSA)
Changes were made to the 2021-2024 Racing Rules of Sailing, which have affecting clubs’ Notice of Races (NoR) and the OCSA Sailing Instructions (SIs). As a result, OCSA has updated its Sailing Instructions and COVID-19 Regulations for the 2021 season. Check these links for more information and please note that updated NoR’s will be posted as they become available. Your patience and understanding are greatly appreciated.

Race and Education
Registration for SYSCO Race and Education events are live on SailPDX. Please register early, so SYSCO can gauge fleet participation. SYSCO has created a No-Fly Sails Tuesday Fleet to accommodate short-handed sailing, and to balance Tuesday and Thursday night participation. There may be a Tuesday No-Fly PHRF scoring class if there is enough interest.
SYSCO Fleet Night has been postponed to Tuesday February 23rd (revised date) at 7:00pm, postponed last week due to weather. Fleet Night will include a presentation from Kerry Poe and a special musical guest. The new Zoom meeting link can be found on the OCSA calendar event page description or contact SYSCO’s Commodore.
Earlybird SYSCO membership ends after Feb 18! Renew your SYSCO membership here, today.
Rose City Yacht Club (RCYC)
Please join fellow sailboat racers for the first race of the new season on March 20th! This year’s Frostbite Regatta hopes to bring keel boat racers for an afternoon of buoy racing. Weather and set-up permitting, RCYC would like to offer up unusual race courses to challenge both the crews’ minds, as well as their ability. Come on out to enjoy seeing other boats, wave back and forth, then get down to some fun racing.
The entry fee has dropped to $2 per boat, so please register early. For more information and to register, check the SailPDX Event Notice Board. Please note that, due to COVID, the after-race social at RCYC has been canceled.
Corinthian Yacht Club (CYC – Portland)
The 2021 Pacific NW Offshore is on! It’s taken some rework of the logistics due the Canadian border closing and the cancellation of this year’s Swiftsure; but CYC and their title sponsor, Schooner Creek Boat Works, were determined to make this year’s race happen. We’re excited to report that registration is now live! For more information please visit www.cycportland.org and www.pacificnwoffshore.org
Due to ongoing restrictions of public gatherings, CYC had made the decision to cancel its annual Pray for Wind event on March 7th, as well as the Chili Cook-Off on March 14th, which would have concluded the annual Sailing on Sundays races.
Rain or shine, Sailing on Sundays continues every Sunday through March 14th!
And, one last thing from OCSA …
Every year the OCSA Board puts together the annual OCSA Racebook, with listings of local sailboat racing events and clubs, Notice of Races (NOR), as well as Sailing Instructions (SI) for OCSA sanctioned races, and the OCSA Course Chart. Hard copies of the 2021 OCSA Racebook are now available for $30 at West Marine and North Sails with your OCSA membership. A laminated copy of the OCSA Course Chart can be purchased for $2 each at these locations, as well, or download/print them for free on the OCSA website, SailPDX.org
Note that OCSA membership is required for most Portland area Columbia River racing registration. If you’d rather save a tree (and $10), e-membership with digital 2021 OCSA Racebook is only $20.
I look forward to seeing you at the upcoming events and hope to see you on the Columbia soon.
Fair winds,
Lilli M.
