As we begin a new year, a new season of sailing events is about to begin. As always, the boating season kicks off with the 62nd annual Portland Boat Show, starting today through January 16, at the Portland Expo Center. OCSA sponsors exhibiting at the show include Portland Yacht Club (booth 204), Schooner Creek Boat Works (booth 534) and Passion Yachts (both 530). Drop by and show your support, and say hello!
Please note that all attendees 5 years of age and older, exhibitors and staff must wear a face mask and/or shield at all times in the Portland Expo Center, as well as adhere to 6’ social distancing when possible. Use of frequent hand sanitizer is recommended.

Please join OCSA (Oregon Corinthian Sailing Association) or renew your 2022 membership. You must be a member of OCSA to be eligible to enter most Columbia River racing events. You can opt for electronic membership ($20) and rely on SailPDX to see the calendar, Racebook and Course Charts.
Or, you can join/renew your 2022 OCSA membership for $30 (cash or check) and receive a hard copy of the 2022 OCSA Racebook (coming soon!). We’ll have them available soon at:

Welcome To Portland Sailing!
The boating community of Oregon and SW Washington is quite welcoming and willing to help those new to the area, or those interested in beginning to race sailboats, learn the ropes (pun intended!) of our incredible sport. Gaining experience as either a skipper or crew is certainly possible and we’re here to help you navigate how to get started.
*** Take Sailing Lessons ***
Willamette Sailing Club has classes for adults and youth through US Sailing. Classes are taught in small boats on the Willamette River.
Passion Yachts offer fully-sanctioned ASA (American Sailing Association) sailing certification classes to both beginners and advanced students on sailboats, ranging from 22-46 feet, with outboard/inboard power and tiller/wheel steering.
Island Sailing Club is proud to be a fully-accredited American Sailing Association sailing school. Check them out for upcoming classes!
Oregon Women’s Sailing Association offers OWSA offers a variety of learning opportunities for women can learn to sail and gain confidence.

*** Own a Sailboat & Curious About Racing ***
Come out for Beer Can Races on gorgeous warm weekends. No registration is needed and these are very casual. To begin, just follow the other boats around the course! This year, the Beer Cans feature themes and a social event after each race. For more info, go to the Event Notice Board.
Attend SYSCO Race Clinic on April 14, 2022.
Many Fleets have a tradition of mentoring/coaching new skippers. Contact the SYSCO Race Captain who can connect you with the appropriate Fleet Captain or other mentors.
If you have a dingy (a sailboat without ballast) look into dingy racing on the Willamette River at the Willamette Sailing Club.

Race documents, course charts and local rules can be found on our Racing Tab. Consider joining the Oregon Corinthian Sailing Association (OCSA) for $20 annually – it’s well worth it for all you receive! Participate in the sailing community by helping out, as needed. This is a great way to meet fun and like-minded sailors.
Or, join a Race Committee – the BEST seat in the house to watch races and learn. Reach out to the Club Race Captains to see how you can help!
