There is still great sailing this time of the year…
Come out for the Robert A. Smith Regatta
The PYC Robert A. Smith Regatta will be on October 5 and 6, which is next week. This is a really fun regatta where the wind can do anything, the current can flow backwards, and there is great socializing at Portland Yacht Club afterwards, including an all you can eat buffet on Sunday. Did we mention the event tee shirts? Fleets can opt to race only one day with advance notice to the Race Captain. Register at SailPDX.
Race Newport’s Yaquina Bay
Try something new–bring your boat and crew to the beautiful Yaquina Bay in Newport OR, and join the fun for the Columbus Day Regatta, October 12-13, 2019. For the Notice of Race , more information or to register, click this link.
Sailing on Sunday starts October 13
It’s been a great year of Portland evening and weekend racing but, when the leaves start to turn, our thoughts should turn not just to college football but to Sailing on Sunday. We’ll be racing every Sunday until March 1 with 3 weeks off during December. Time to dust off the crew that’s been waiting in the wings, throw an extra blanket and some fleece down the companionway for those chilly days in December through January, and psyche-up for a great winter of sailing here in Bridgetown. Register at SailPDX. The fee is $15 dollars for 18 weeks of racing. Don’t forget to signup for committee boat duty at the same time–first come, first serve (remember there’s only 18 slots available). You get a bullet for that race without even hoisting your sails. SOS is organized by the Corinthian Sailing Club (CYC).
Register for the Party
Registration is open for the OCSA Tropical Party. Register at SailPDX and invite your team, family and friends! You can either purchase additional tickets with your registration or ask your crew to register separately. The party definitely is a highlight of the season!
OCSA serves the entire sailing community and that definitely includes crew members. Please invite your team to subscribe to receive emails from OCSA (like this message).
Nominate sailors for the 2019 OCSA Awards. Every year we recognize the outstanding members of our sailing community who make it the vibrant community that it is. There are four awards (each with a perpetual trophy) that are presented each year. The awards are as follows:
- Sailor of the Year : the individual who has gone beyond the call of duty in their contributions to the sailing community
- Good Times : the sailor who always seems to have the most infectious good time
- Welcome Slough : the sailor who has put forth extra effort to be involved in the sailing community
- US Sailing Sportsmanship : the sailor who has exhibited Corinthian sportsmanship both on and off the water
Please think about the people you know that deserve recognition and let us know about them. The process is simple–just go to this link and submit your nomination through October 20th. Your suggestions are confidential. Input is very welcome from all sailors, not just OCSA members, so please share this message to your team members. And feel free to go back to the site to nominate additional people up until the Oct 20 cut off.
