OCSA COVID-19 News-Blast

I wanted to assure our local sailing community that we are following mitigation measures for the State of Oregon COVID-19 situation announced by Governor Brown this morning, as well as following any guidance from US Sailing.

As of now, some gatherings will be curtailed accordingly to promote the health and safety of our community. However, some smaller events may continue with added precautions like social distancing seating arrangements. Ultimately these decisions will be made club-by-club1,2, as the Organizing Authority for each event, so stay tuned to your favorite race club’s announcements for event status!

As for upcoming OCSA-organized events:

  • The US Sailing PRO training will continue as planned on Sat Mar 14 (event by registration through US Sailing)
  • The free Craig Daniels’-led Racing Rules refresher clinic will continue as planned on the evenings of Tues Mar 17 & Thurs Mar 19

* We note, at this time, that the state of Oregon places those over 60 years of age or those with an underlying health condition in the high risk population are advised to avoid social and community gatherings of more than ten (10) people for four weeks (through April 8, 2020). There are 17 registrants currently for the US Sailing PRO class, and less than 20 RSVPs for the Rules Refresher. Please use this information to inform your decision to attend.

We will continue monitoring the situation and current guidelines and requirements by both our state and federal government in regards to COVID-19 protocols… but also want to remind everyone of US Sailing RRS (Racing Rules of Sailing) rule 4. DECISION TO RACE The responsibility for a boat’s decision to participate in a race or to continue racing is hers alone.

Make smart and safe decisions for your boat, your crew, and the safety of your loved ones!
And hopefully, see you on the river!
