With Nike in our own backyard, their well-known “Just do it” campaign took a whole new direction as the SailPDX website underwent a significant transformation. In just under three months, this site remarkably went from a concept scrawled on several pieces of scratch paper to live execution. Like any project of this scope and timetable, it took sheer determination and a village of incredible and willing individuals – nearly every one a volunteer – to make this possible.
Our objective was to develop a site that is user-friendly, as well as informative, for both the local sailing community and visitors alike – a “one-stop shop”, so to speak, for northern Oregon and southwest Washington sailing information. While it will undoubtedly continue to evolve, we hope we have succeeded...’cause, Sailors, this one’s for you!! Suggestions, comments and feedback are certainly appreciated and welcome — send us a note via our website “Contact Us” page…we’ll listen.
Finally, special thanks to: Bill Barton for creating SailPDX years ago and for allowing OCSA to grow your vision; Gary Whitney for single-handedly maintaining the website for the past decade and for your willingness to continue (we are lucky to have you!), for your extraordinary help throughout the transition process, and for your patience with my repeated requests of forgotten passwords; the entire OCSA Executive Board – Kimberly Rimkus, Jeanine Hohn, Mary Stainsby & Mark McCuddy (OCSA), Kevin Kahl & Ryan Barnes (CYC), Mary Hartel (OWSA), Mike Stainsby (PYC), Alan Bergen, Mike Pitarresi & Eric Rimkus (RCYC) & Michael Nance & Warren Dalby (SYSCO) – for your invaluable input, feedback and suggestions; Alice Patten (OCSA – past) for your “insider” knowledge and sisterly support; Dale Mack, Dena Kent, Terry Johnson & Bill Symes for generously sharing your beautiful photographs; Patsy Verhoeven for always responding to requests and for persisting through slow international internet connections; Bill Sanborn for being such an incredible resource for anything about Portland’s sailing history; and lastly Sharene Lewis & Joel Dualan for turning a vision and words on paper into a creative reality.
Cheers and good sailing!
Ailona Dundore (OCSA)
