SYSCO Spring Race Clinic
Saturday, March 23 – 10:00 a.m. to Noon – Portland Yacht Club
In Person Only – No Zoom.

The Saturday morning chalkboard session is for NEW and RETURNING sailors as an in-depth discussion of how SYSCO and most other races are run on the Columbia River. Updates to the OCSA General Instructions and Course Charts, local rules, hearing requests, and local racing conditions are included. Experienced skippers are available to share racing knowledge. A special guest speaker will offer tips on how to keep the wet-side down and the pointy-end moving toward the finish line. 

All members of the sailing community, including crew, are welcome
to this FREE EVENT.  NO PRE-REGISTRATION NEEDED.
Just show up, learn, and meet other sailors and crew.

SYSCO Crew Overboard / Race with PRACTICE
Sunday, March 24  – 1300 start

Each boat is required to complete a simulated crew overboard drill on each of the first and second legs of the course. 

REGISTRATION: Enter online at SailPDX. The registration deadline is 24 hours prior to the first scheduled race. No late entries will be accepted.

FEES: FREE! But you still must register! You need your individual start time.

After starting, each boat shall, at a time and location of its choosing, but before reaching the three-boat length zone around the first mark, conduct a simulated crew overboard drill, by throwing an untethered Category IV flotation device (e.g., a throwable seat cushion, a detached ring buoy, or horseshoe buoy) a minimum 10 feet off the stern in a direction per- perpendicular to the transom, and then successfully recovering the device before proceeding. Between the first rounding mark and the second rounding mark or, if there is no second rounding mark, the finish line, each boat must repeat the simulated crew overboard drill, for a total of two crew overboard drills during the race. 

Exclusion: no boat shall initiate a simulated crew overboard drill within three boat lengths of the start line, finish line, another boat, or any mark of the course. 

Start line: between Buoy 14 and the committee boat, which will be anchored south of Buoy 14 near the RCYC docks. Race Committee on VHF 72 .

DATE & TIME: Sunday, March 24, warning signal at 1255 hours, the slowest rated boat starts at 1300.
