October News Blast

OCSA 2020 Awards Nominations (NOMINATIONS STILL OPEN UNTIL MONDAY)
Even in a year full of unexpected challenges, a lot of volunteer hours and creativity went into keeping engaging sailing events on the calendar. Now is our opportunity to recognize and thank the members of our community who stepped up! OCSA has opened up nominations for our 2020 trophies.

Please share and use this link to nominate anyone in the community for any of the OCSA trophies (nominees do not have to be an OCSA member to qualify! And YOU don’t have to be an OCSA member to nominate anyone!). Nominations close on Monday, Oct 5.

The trophies this year are:

  • Sailor of the Year– This trophy is for the individual that has gone above and beyond the call of duty in their contributions to the sailing community.
  • Good Times– The sailor who always seems to have the most infectious good time.
  • Welcome Slough– A new sailor who has put forth extra effort to be involved in the sailing community. And,
  • US Sailing Sportsmanship– Awarded to the individual who has exhibited Corinthian sportsmanship both on and off the water.

Feel free to fill out the form repeatedly and nominate as many individuals for these awards as you are inspired to. The form is a nomination and not a vote, but the OCSA Officers would love to know who YOU think deserves recognition for what they’ve contribute to our community in 2020.

OCSA is still seeking an interested volunteer for the position of OCSA Vice Commodore for 2021. If you or someone you know would be a good fit and available for the position, please feel free to contact the OCSA Commodore or Vice Commodre to talk about this important volunteer opportunity further.

Upcoming Sailing Events

PYC Robert A Smith Regatta, Oct 3-4
This weekend, October 3rd and 4th, is the last Regatta of the year – PYC’s annual Robert A. Smith Regatta. This is your last opportunity of the year to win a trophy, race against your friends, and end each day at the club, having drinks with your fellow competitors, telling stories about your victories and challenges, and watching the sun go down. The bar will be available for all racers and their crews, and the kitchen will be open if you are looking for snacks or dinner. Preliminary results will be posted after each day of racing. I know it’s been a weird year with all the social positioning and requirements, but let’s all come out and have one last regatta before temperatures drop and the weather gets rainy. Registration is open until 6:00PM Friday, and we look forward to seeing you!

CYC Sailing on Sundays (SOS)
Two Sunday races in the books, and taking this weekend (Oct 4) off so that boats can (and should) participate in the PYC Robert A Smith Regatta…. CYC SOS will resume next weekend Oct 11.
Updated SOS NOR can be found here; Registration is open here.

Take care, and be well!!
