The US Coast Guard yesterday reopened the Columbia River to all marine traffic.
A safety zone, from Reed Island to the Bonneville Dam, was placed into effect last Tuesday, September 5th, at 4:30pm to protect personnel, vessels and the marine environment from potential hazards created by falling ash from the Eagle Creek fire. During that period, the River was being used as a source of water for airborne firefighting efforts and allowed planes to operate in a safer environment without marine traffic.
