Gary Bruner, who spearheaded the efforts to repair the invisible Gleason Street wing dam, noticed work hadn’t been completed in November, as proposed. Consequently, he sent a follow-up inquiry to Jeffrey Henon, Public Affairs Specialist for the Portland District of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (Corp), with whom he’s been working. Following is an excerpt from the January 7th email communication:
“The good news is we awarded the contract to repair the wing dam.
The bad news is that we didn’t have enough time to complete the work during the in-water work window.
In-water work is only permitted during specific times of year to reduce impacts to marine life, especially migrating salmon.
Our contractor will be performing the work during the next in-water work window, which is Oct – Nov 2020.”
Thank you, Gary, for continuing to ensure this work is completed and being the “squeaky wheel”!
